california coast tuesday when he was attacked. experts say they think it was a young, great white shark. stephens has a 14-inch shark bite and several other tears to his body. he says the shark came out of nowhere and he just remembers it grabbing him and pulling him down. >>i punched the shark a couple of times until it released me. >>when stephens surfaced. people on the beach jumped into the water and pulled him to safety. he was taken to the hospital where he immediately had surgery. stephens says he plans on surfing again as soon as he's healed. president obama and republican candidate mitt romney got their campaigns back in full swing today. they'll hit several key states as they try and shore up support with the election just five days away. president obama is in green bay wisconsin at this hour. he's on a 24-hour whirlwind tour. criss-crossing the country to campaign in the swing states of wisconsin, nevada, colorado and ohio. republican mitt romney is making three campaign stops in the swing state of virginia today. he told supporters the country's economic troubles will not

as california, they have pledged to start getting equipment crews, etc., here into new jersey and new york and connecticut as quickly as possible. and one of the things that we have been able to do, just to give you a sense of how this is an all hands deck approach, we're able to get c-17's, c-130's, military transport planes potentially to move assets, personnel to speed up the process of getting power up and running as soon as possible. our first priority is water filtration plants and some other critical infrastructure in the state. for that we've got emergency generators. we've got a navy ship that has some helicopters that can help to move assets around the state as well. and so we are going to be working with governor christi's office to identify the critical infrastructure and how we can get what's needed as quickly as possible. a couple other things we are concerned about, one is as power starts coming back on, we want to make sure that people can also get to work. obviously there are a lot of folks in jersey who work in new york, in the city, and in other places where transportati

this closely. when i've spoken to people in texas, i've spoken to people in california, they're all focused on this story. seeing the president in the role of president does have an impact on some undecided voters, i think. i think that there was that leadership role which he managed to fulfill, and he fulfilled it well. >> it's just an awkward situation for the romney campaign. since sandy made landfall earlier this week, we mentioned fema. mitt romney has been facing questions about his plans for funding fema and disaster response. something he suggested turning back to the states during a debate last year. attempting to clarify the position, the romney campaign released a statement reading in part, quote, this. i believe that fema plays a key role in working with states and localities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters. as president, i will ensure fema has the funding it needs to fulfill its mission, while directing maximum resources to first responders who work tirelessly to help those in need because states and localities are in the best position to get aid to the individu

. as you can see from some of these maps, they showed california as an island and it took a long time for that to actually get removed from the maps-- old maps, it often took 100 years, maybe 200 years. >> reporter: google and others can react more quickly because of all the input they get. thousands of times a day, people all over the world tell google, via the internet, that roads, or signage, or stores or parks have changed, or that a their own neighborhood is poorly represented and that the company needs to update its maps. google investigates the alleged errors, and tries to correct them. the concept of having people on the ground change the map is called crowd sourcing. and it's the principle pioneered by an israeli-based mapping company called waze. that firm, with a small palo alto office, uses g.p.s. to track the location of 27 million drivers who have downloaded its app. waze depends on that crowd to update its maps, determine traffic congestion and direct users to alternate routes. >> so while you're getting a free navigation service, you're also contributing to the communi
of the states that were scared, were not hard hit or some states as far away as california, they have pledged to get the equipment and cruise here into new jersey and new york and connecticut as quickly as possible. one of the things we have been able to do, to give you a sense of how this is an all hands on deck approach, we are able to and c-130's, military transport planes, to move assets and personnel to speed up the process of getting power as soon as possible. our first party is water filtration plants and other critical infrastructure in the state. for that, we have to move some generators, and we have a ship that can help to move assets around the state as well. we are going to be working with governor christie's office and local officials to identify what are those critical infrastructures, how we can get what is needed as quickly as possible. a couple other things we are concerned about. as power starts coming back on, we want to make sure people can get to work. there are a lot of folks in jersey who work in new york, in the city, and other places where transportation may be hobble
